Welcome to Artlantis, the rendering software that make architects and designers’ dreams come
true.
Artlantis 3 is reinforcing its position as the fastest, most powerful solution for photorealistic 3D rendering with an even more accurate radiosity engine, new management of geometry by layers, better management and enrichment of media, and simplified control of optimized lighting.
New Features and Enhancements in Artlantis Studio Include:
- Media
Transparency of Billboards and Plants -
Accessible directly in Artlantis, the new transparency slider allows you to set the transparency of billboards and 3D plants in order to better view the project. There’s no longer any need for photo editing!
Detachable Components -
Detach elements of the 3D model and keep them as internal components in your 3D scene using the polygon selection tool. This component is easy to handle as an external object (aof) while remaining fully integrated in the scene.
Editable Anchor Points -
The anchor point allows you to place and rotate an object or component in the 3D scene. Grab this point in the 2D view by pressing the “D” key, and simply drag it to the desired location.
Media Search Function -
When opening a file, Artlantis 3 allows you to search for and replace any missing media components on your hard drive, as well as delete them.
- Layers
Layer Management - Artlantis 3 has a new structure of layers: scene, objects, 3D plants, lamps, animated objects and billboards. You can also add or remove your own layers.
Automatic Placement -
The “default layer” function allows you to determine the destination layer for each type of media. Once you add new billboards or objects to your projects, you can have this placement done either automatically or manually.
Layer Import -
ArchiCAD users will appreciate this new feature, which, thanks to the ArchiCAD export plug-in, allows you to select the layers you want to export to Artlantis.
Visibility by View -
For greater ease of use and increased productivity, especially on large projects, hide the layers that might burden your work in preview (for example, 3D plants). What’s more, this new function also allows you to present your various layout options from the same document.
- Lights
Fall-off Presets -
Artlantis 3 offers 9 different types of lighting accessible by a drop-down menu (Lights inspector). Based on an adaptation of photometric data of light sources, these lighting options can be completely customized: change the intensity, the color, the angle, the softness of shadows…
Neon Shader -
The Neon shader has also been greatly improved both in terms of quality and rendering speed.
- Radiosity: This brand new rendering engine, developed especially for architecture, is faster and more accurate than ever before.
Exceptional Quality -
In general, the quality of the renderings has been greatly improved. Abvent’s R&D team has paid special attention to the likeness between the preview and the final rendering.
Complete Settings -
Pre-defined settings for both interior and exterior scenes make life easier for beginners, while more advanced users will appreciate the “Expert” interface, which allows them to personalize the radiosity settings.
Existing Features:
- Real time radiosity
Thanks to its new and original rendering engine, Artlantis is the first and the only application able to calculate radiosity con-
sistently and in real time within the preview window. -the final rendering is really similar to the preview window -the Open
GL mode has been considerably enhanced, faster and more accurate.
- A very natural Heliodon
The new version of Artlantis improves all the lightings, with the addition of :
-a “physical sky” endowed with the sun, the moon and the stars that enlighten the project in global illumination
-the automatic balance between natural and artificial lighting
-the manual positioning for the sun, or automatic Sun Positioning at 45° for parallel view rendering
-a new clouds editor for even more realism : cumulus, cumulonimbus, stratus... ; fog and pollution are also on display.
Artlantis heliodon still allows to enlight the scene according to season time, date and geographic location.
- New post-process adjustments
New options enable to modify the luminance, the contrast, and the color index of a rendered image during the post-pro-
cess phase. It allows as well to add grain, contour lines or a pastel painting effect... for a fantastic new shading quality.
These adjustments are displayed directly in the preview window and can be all mixed together.
- New shaders properties
Artlantis 2.0 offers new automatic texture definition. The shaders have new properties : specular reflection, shiningness,
blur effect, normal mapping... for a considerable new shading quality. New function for advanced users, they can now crea-
te theirs own shaders through a complete interface.
- New catalog ergonomy
Artlantis offers a new Catalog, that allows to pilot the whole 2D and 3D medias and the postcards from the same window. A
third column appears in the catalog with a better view of the selected item. The use of medias doesn’t require anymore to
be browsed by catalog, the user simply has to add favourite files to the Artlantis Catalog.
INTEROPERABILITY:
Artlantis is a stand-alone rendering solution that is committed to interoperability. Abvent, developers of Artlantis, have worked hard on the exchange of data between Artlantis and the leading CAD applications in order to make 3D models more accessible to you.
As a result, Artlantis reads the latest versions of the most common file formats such as .dxf, .dwg, .dwf, .fbx or .obj. SketchUp files can be opened directly in Artlantis, which is a big step toward a direct data transfer between a modeler and an independent renderer.

Built-in plug-ins allow the many popular BIM and CAD software to export 3D models directly to the Artlantis file format:
